Which led to this.
The needle felted version! A different color interpretation, to be sure, but staying in the fall pallette.
This pair ended up here.
The last of my felt birthday cakes for my breakfast/lunch bunch buddies! I've now reached my goal of making one of these as a birthday treat for each of six friends. My goal was to make each one different, at least as far as the decorations go, so it was hard to keep dreaming up new options. That's how acorns ended up on top of the cake--even though, as my teenager pointed out, you wouldn't normally use *those* on top of a real cake!
I'd love to transform some more acorns into needle-felted ones, but we'll have to see how far my time and patience will stretch. If you have an oak tree nearby, gather a handful for yourself and give it a whirl!

Love the felted acorns! They are too cool! You have different shaped acorns than we get up here. I like the elongated shape. Beautiful!
Those are wonderful, as is the cake. You're so creative!
I love the felted acorns! We don't get acorns on our trees, but I remember collecting them when I was a kid.
Same as Elizabeth...those are some freakish acorns you have there! Ours are tiny in comparison.
Beautiful and inspired!
Your birthday cakes are super cute.
I havn't visited for a long time. Oh, I just love your photos! The felted acorns are wonderful, and I'm sure that in some gourmet cake shop somewhere, someone has put acorns on top of their cake! By the way, I love the pink and brown trekking socks and I'm going to have to hunt down that sock yarn for myself. Can't wait to see them when they're done.
AARRGH! Those felted acorns are gorgeous! Like, hurt-my-teeth gorgeous. You are an inspiration!
