I'm pooped!

I've been working outside (mostly) for the past couple of weeks, getting the yard, garden and patio in shape for summer. It's hard work! No need to go to the gym on these days. I traded my Nikes for these instead.

About five or six years ago my husband built two raised vegetable and flower beds for me. Time took its toll on the cedar, however, and this is the sorry state they were in.

Not so pretty! But some new cedar, along with fresh soil and hummus, began a wonderful transformation.

Don't forget the plants, too. Tomatoes, basil, marigolds (to keep away those pesky bugs).

The second bed I seeded heavily with zinnias so I can enjoy lots of colorful cut flowers later in the season. It looks a little sad now, but later this summer it will be the star. This was just the beginning of the outdoor work! Mulching, planting pots of annuals for the patio, weeding, sanding and painting patio furniture, and a few other projects have sucked up all my time this week. Max, however, was unimpressed.

For me, there is a reward at the end of the day.

Iced tea in my favorite glass! Ahhh...

Leslie, The new raised beds look great! Your post reminds me that I need to get tomatoes and basil planted this weekend! I've been so busy with landscaping that I'd forgotten about the yummy stuff.
How do you like that brand of garden clogs?... I am in the market for a pair, my crocs just aren't cutting it.

Unlike baby puppy, I appreciate the amount of work needed to bring a garden back to life. Well done!

Oh, and my gardening shoes aren't nearly as nice as yours :o)

I'm assuming the hummus you're refering to is not the same kind you eat with pita?

Ah, raised beds! Awesome. The Eyecandy is beautiful indeed. I am still mourning the loss of my huge shade tree, and still trying to decide if I have the stamina to plant "sun plants" where it used to be. NB from Wikipedia: "For the food, see Hummus.
For the band, see Humus (band).
"Humus" is a term used to describe two different types of organic material in soil."
I think it was Sam Clemens that pointed out that little things matter, because that's all that distinguishes lightening from a lightening bug.... Happy gardening.

For someone who usually is very careful with words and spelling...you caught my hummus/humus error when I missed it. That's what happens when you hurry your words! So, although I might like hummus...the plants prefer humus. Tee-hee!
