I finally got around to snapping a shot of the baby kimono I finished a couple of weeks ago. I used the pattern from the summer 2005 issue of Interweave Knits, and it was a quick knit. Garter stitch is pretty boring, but given the small size of the garment, it's do-able. Here's how it looks.
I enjoyed using the GGH Maxima yarn. It's a superwash wool, and makes a soft, squishy garment. I changed the closure from the suggestion on the pattern, but that's about it. They show a cute grosgrain ribbon tie, but I decided that after a little baby drool and spit-up, those ribbons wouldn't hold up too well. Instead, I made a two-stitch i-cord and used a little pearl shank button. Hopefully this will be a little more sturdy when in use.
Looking at this photo, I can see some uneven stitches, and a little bit of curling near the bottom front edge. I didn't wash or block the sweater, but maybe I need to. What do you think? Would that help with those little irregularities?

That sweater is adorable! I think the button was a great idea. I prefer them to ribbons which come untied so easily. Great work!
That sweater is so gorgeous. I think it's the simplicity of it that is so appealing, timeless, sweet!
oh, it's so sweet and lovely. I think the button was a great idea!
That is too sweet. Beautiful soft color.
What a darling sweater! It looks perfect to me. Your use of a button is a real improvement, too!
love the look - especially the button. re: irregularities.
yes, washing will help the little sweater bloom - just like a baby!
wash in something like ivory snow liquid and rinse, rinse, rinse. more baby similarities!
don't worry about any irregularities that appear - that's the beauty and the lovlinesss of garter stitch.
