Hiking along

I found what I think is the perfect yarn for the Irish Hiking scarf. It's Classic Elite Inca alpaca, fuzzy (but not too fuzzy) and oh, so, soft.

I bought three skeins at one of my favorite shops, Yarn Shop and More. Since I didn't have to order it, I could start right away! I got a jump on the scarf this afternoon, with three pattern repeats done.

This photo makes it look tiny, but it's actually about 5 1/2 inches wide. Not as wide as some scarves, but actually just the size I wanted. I think this will be the perfect width for tucking inside a jacket, just to keep my husband's neck warm.

Did I mention this is my first time to try cables? It's so fun, and not nearly as complicated as I'd always imagined it to be. The pattern is very simple and easy to follow, too.

Now I just have to plan my knitting time carefully, working on this during the day when he's away, and other Christmas gifts in the evening. Sneaky!

Very sneaky ;) It looks great! Wonderful job on your first cables (I would never have known, if you had't said so).
