You may be thinking that I have an entire weekend ahead to knit the other one, but I'm not that fast. Plus, I had the chance to see her today and I won't be with her next week, so I wrapped up the single sock and presented it to her. I think she was a little surprised to see only one sock in the package--as were the others around the table--but she's O.K. with the idea that another will come along soon. My daughter joked that the second sock could be a Christmas gift, but I sure hope I can knit faster than that!

for years I would open a gift from my mother, only to find the beginnings of some article of clothing.. for instance, a skirt, with the pattern pinned to the fabric and cut out, but nothing further. I think it comes with being crafty.. these lovely gifts take time! At least she didn't open a box with an un-knit skein of yarn and a pattern in it! :)
If your mom's anything like mine, she gave you a good ribbing and then showed how happy she is with her half a gift. The first sock turned out beautifully; I love the way the colors blend into one another.
Since sock, the first is so lovely I'm sure she knows that she has nothing but a gorgeous pair of handmade love to look forward to!

I've been reading for some time. Your felted baby bear (so cute) was such an inspiration I had to track down the pattern and make one. I'm sure your mother will love her sock(s).

Welcome to my Christmas '06. I'm with Abbey - these things take time. The socks will be very special indeed. (For what it's worth, everyone seemed to appreciate their gifts-in-progress over here.)
My mom's Mother's Day socks (2007!) are blocking on my ironing board right now, so you're ahead of me! At least your mom got ONE sock... my mom got a color photocopy of one sock! Some things are just worth waiting for, ha! ha!
