Peonies are about the only thing I miss from the Midwest. They're so full and big and sweet-smelling! But, yeah, the ants are pesky.
Without ants, your peonies would not bloom. They eat the sticky sweet nectar off the flower bud so the petals can open. They are a necessary evil!

Oh, to be able to inhale the perfume of this beauty!
Peonies are my very, very favorite flower! We had some in our old yard, but at the new place, we just planted some so they probably won't bloom until next year.
