Mohair madness

I pulled this project out of the bag last night, mostly to remind myself I need to work on it! It's taken a backseat to some smaller, faster projects for several reasons. First, I'm not sure what the finished size should be, so I'm not sure how to determine when it's "done." Today I took it partly off the needles (taking some stitches onto an Addi stitch holder) so I could get a good look at the actual size. Here's what it looks like right now:

I can tell it's not large enough yet, but getting closer. It's measuring about 40" across the longest edge, with the shorter edges coming in around 28". This is to be a Christmas gift for my mom, who's fairly petite, so I don't want it to be overwhelmingly large. I'm thinking that it should reach fingertip-to-fingertip, or maybe just a little more?

The other issue is one of finishing. I could just bind it off when it's the right size and call it done...but somehow I'm thinking it needs something more. Someone suggested a lace edge bind off, but I'm not sure this yarn would show a pattern like that very well. And, I'm not sure if fringe is the right answer. I'm open to suggestions right now, if any of you have some good ideas!

Here's a closeup that shows the yarn and colors a little better:

I'm so putting fringe on mine..i think it makes it more "snuggly" or something.

I don't know what to tell you to do to yours lol i LOVE the colors on your shawl, what yarn are you using? and the felted bag you did the other day. WOW. LOVE the shape!

okay so I just saw what you're using. I'm a quick one.

I think it would look fine w/o a "finish" to it. Bind it off, try it on and see what you think then?

Something I've seen a lot of people doing is adding tassles at each corner or at just the tip.

I don't have any suggestions on the shawl, but it is a GORGEOUS color!
