Goodbye, hello

Great pumpkin
Autumn splendor
Scaredy bat

Today signals a fresh start as a new month stretches before me. I can't believe October is gone! A whirlwind of change, with blustery days and bursts of color everywhere. And pumpkins, lots of pumpkins. Pumpkin patches, pumpkin bread, pumpkin cookies. Baked and carved, all behind me. The jack-o-lantern will soon shrivel, the leftover candy will be consumed. So what's ahead?

Right now I'm thinking about the holidays and how we can simplify. The ideas behind the Advent Conspiracy are compelling to me: spending less on gifts, more time with family, giving to those in need. I'm working on ideas to make this happen. I have some plans, but haven't finalized them all. Have you been thinking about this, too? I'd love to hear your thoughts. Let's share ideas so we can all enjoy the time more.

I love your bat! I've been baking pumpkin bread too... the family loves it and with some pumpkin butter and cream cheese... Yummy!

I'm knitting most of my gifts this year for family and friends. There's just such satisfaction in handmade. =)

It sounds like a GREAT idea to me. I've been thinking along the same lines. No solid ideas yet, but I'm working on it. Thanks for the link to the website.

The bat is too cool. Thanks for the reminder about the Advent Conspiracy. I have been thinking how I'm/were going to cut back as well. How much can I make, without making myself crazy?? No solid answers yet. I do know I am going to be making more of the maya made buckets as part of Christmas...

You ALWAYS put together such a sweet compilation of photos! I really love these, and the top one is just delightful with that pumpkin and it's little curl of a stem!
