Looking for the bright spots

It was a long week for my family and me. My daughter had the flu, complete with fever, chills, stuffy head, and extreme fatigue. Friday was her first day back at school (luckily Monday and Tuesday were school holidays) so the household routine was definitely off. I played caregiver while she camped on the couch, sleeping and watching countless TV shows. When I picked her up from school Friday, she commented that she was happy to be back there. Nothing like a long stretch of sickness to make you appreciate the everyday!

Happily, I was able to stay healthy and found ways to keep busy. At Erin's suggestion, I spent time looking for the color yellow.

Yellow, 3

Yellow, 5

Yellow, 4

As you can see, the search ended up in the kitchen more than once! I had the recipe for lemon bread on my list of goodies to bake, and I wasn't disappointed in the results. (I substituted poppy seeds for the pecans and added a confectioner's sugar glaze--yum!) Lemons were also on the menu for dinner Wednesday night when I made this new favorite.

So although the week was filled with sickness and cloudy skies, there were bright moments, too. The coming week brings a special birthday, so there will be some fun planning this weekend. What's ahead for you?

Yum! Lemon bread! How did you make the lemon glaze? The WS recipe you mentioned has a lemon syrup poured over it instead. I think I have to try making this.

I prepared the lemon syrup as directed; this adds the lemon flavor and moisture you want. For the glaze, I stirred together one cup of powdered sugar with 1 T of lemon juice and a little water, then drizzled it over the top (after the syrup). It's delicious!

Hmm.. was the lemon bread sour? We like orange but only when they are sweet. Can't imagine eating lemon...

That looks delicious! I think I have a spare lemon somewhere here under all my UFOs.

That bread looks so yummy! As do your other baking projects. Maybe I should get off-line and head to the kitchen!

How is it that you manage to capture visual intensity and simplicity, as well as completely understanding the effects of light on your subjects?

You've come leaps and bounds from where your exploration began. Kudos!
