Hearts

Every year these flowers take me by surprise. The plant dies back completely in the summer and there's no sign of life for months. Then spring arrives and the plant makes up for lost time. One day, just a few inches of green peeking above ground. The next, a mound of leafy fronds and hearts dangling daintily from arched branches.

Open hearts
Hearts dangle
Clusters of hearts

How I love the surprises of spring!

Those shots are absolutely fabulous! I used to have a bleeding heart and then it got crushed the year we put on our deck. I miss it!

wow those are gorgeous!! I would love to see just one centered in a photograph with the little water droplets on the tongue. Kinda like a macro shot. Then you could even turn it to black and white and a little haze.

Ok...sorry got off track with my imagination. In short, they are lovely!

Peacockchic, thanks for the ideas. I did crop a single heart as you suggested...you can see it here

Such beautiful photographs! Bleeding hearts are so wonderful, especially since they bloom so early in the season. Thank you for sharing these!

Yeah! You posted the first pictures of bleeding hearts that I've seen on blogdom. They bring such joy to the season. Thanks for the color and sunshine on a spring day.

I know I'm late to the petal party but these are such a treat to behold! I've neither heard of or seen these flowers before. They vaguely resemble fuschia. Wonder if they're related?

Anyway, thanks for sharing your garden!

These have always been one of my favorite flowers. I've tried a couple times and haven't been able to get them growing here. After seeing these photos - I'm going to have to give it another try!
