Treats to share

Well, we're officially just one week away from the big day. It's hard to believe! This time of year the days just fly by and before you know it, all the festivities are here and gone. My gift buying and wrapping are pretty much done, so now's the time for the baking to begin.

For some reason I recently remembered these almond bars that my mom used to make. I emailed her to ask for the recipe, and boy, am I glad.

Christmas goodies

These are EASY and delicious. I made one batch to give to my daughter's piano teacher (plus a few for us) and today I plan to make another batch or two. They're fast, yummy, and perfect for gift-giving.

Want to give 'em a try? Here's the recipe:

Almond Chocolate Butter Bars

1 cup butter
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup white sugar
1 egg yolk
1 tsp vanilla
1 1/3 cups flour
Milk chocolate bar (9.75 oz.) or equivalent milk chocolate chips
3/4 cup toasted sliced almonds

Cream together butter and both sugars. Beat in egg yolk and vanilla. Stir in flour. Spread mixture in prepared 9 x 13" pan. Press with fingers. Bake for 20 minutes at 350 degrees. Break up chocolate bar, scatter on top of hot crust; let melt and then spread. Sprinkle almonds over top, lightly pressing into chocolate. Cut into squares while hot. Remove from pan when cooled.

Hope you enjoy these yummy bars as much as I do. Here's to holiday baking!
