Inspiration Friday

It's hard for me to get excited about winter--I'm much more of a summer loving girl. Sometimes it's hard to find inspiration on a cold and gloomy day. But looking at these images gives me a brief escape and a lot of joy.

Winter beauty

Yesterday was a warm, sun-filled day, so I decided to venture into the back yard to see what I might find. Turns out there are beautiful things to see even in the dead of winter.

Winter's fruit

Much colder temperatures and perhaps a little snow are headed our way this weekend, so I'll be seeking inspiration indoors instead of out. Hope you find something lovely to savor this weekend, too!

Friday Favorites

Hooray for Friday! And a new month, too. It's hard to believe we've turned the page to August. Here is a little eye candy from flickr to kick off your weekend.

Eye candy Friday

More summer goodness. I love the fruits and veggies this time of year, don't you? I need to get some local peaches soon. And I really wish my tomato plants were giving me a little more love. Know what I mean?

Cantaloupe

We had a brief rainstorm this morning--much needed--and now the sun is shining again. Time to get out and enjoy the day. I'm heading out for a little window shopping and lunch with my daughter. What are your plans?

Eye candy Friday

Summer is in full swing, and the joy of flowers is everywhere! To me, the arrival of coneflowers affirms the season.

Coneflower

Unfortunately, the bunnies in my yard love to snack on these before I even get to enjoy them. I actually shot this photo in a beautiful garden here.

Here's to a sunny, flower-filled weekend!

Eye candy Friday

This wheat field is just a few miles south of where I live. Fields like these used to be more prevalent in our area but have slowly disappeared as the suburbs continue to sprawl. I do love them, though, and I couldn't pass this one by without stopping to take some photographs earlier this week.

Song of the Wheat

I think this poem is an appropriate accompaniment to the photo:

Song of the Wheat

Green and amber and gold it grows
When the sun sinks late in the West;
And the breeze sweeps over the rippling rows
Where the quail and the skylark nest.
Mountain or river or shining star,
There's never a sight can beat --
Away to the sky-line stretching far --
A sea of the ripening Wheat.

--A.B. "Banjo" Paterson

Eye candy Friday

Sadly, the peony proliferation is officially over. My blooms braved the numerous storms as best they could, but it's hard to be continually beaten to the ground and survive. Luckily, I cut several luscious bouquets early in the budding stage so I had many to enjoy indoors.

Pink explosion

I had a great time capturing images of these flowers, and this is probably my favorite of the bunch. I still have a few mini buds--those little ones on each side of the large blooms--in tiny vases around the house. They're fading fast, though. Sigh. Time to bring on the hydrangeas!

Anticipation

I've been checking these buds regularly, just waiting for them to burst open so I can bring a big bouquet indoors to enjoy.

Ready to pop

I can almost catch a whiff of that sweet scent...just a few more days now!

Eye candy Friday

I've seen that many bloggers have been drawn into the photography arena as they strive to capture good images of their craft to share. Just look here, here, or here for starters. And those are only the tip of the iceberg!

Trying to hone my skills, I've been having fun exploring some new (to me) photography blogs. One that caught my attention recently is the Noticing Project, a collaborative blog in which two artists post a picture a day of the small, everyday things. Recently they invited readers to participate in a week of noticing, and this was my contribution.

Shadows and blooms

Another great find is Shutter Sisters. The photos are awesome, and the writing is thought provoking. You can hop further down the bunny trail when you start reading the comments and clicking away on the links there. Inspiring.

Are there any photo blogs--or blogs with great photos--that you adore? Please share. I'd love to see what I'm missing!

Candy Friday

Not just eye candy for this Friday. Real candy! This confection--chocolate-covered carmelized matzoh crunch--is beyond-words delicious. Do not make this if you're unable to stop yourself from repeatedly dipping into the container for just *one* more piece. I mean it.

If you have lots of self control (do as I say, not as I do) and want to give this a try, the recipe is here. A batch of this candy will make you very happy. Promise.

P.S. Yes, that's a kiss of salt on top. I didn't have sea salt so I used kosher salt instead. Yum.

Stone cold heart

We are in the deep freeze here right now. Plunging temps and a dusting of snow yesterday--like the one on this little stone heart that inhabits my front porch.

Perfect hot chocolate and knitting weather. Stay warm!

Eye candy Friday

It's bloomin' hot here today, and as I walked around my yard I could tell my plants were feeling the heat. Not much growing now, except lots of weeds. Ugh. I did spy some of my favorites blooming, though--coneflowers!

So pretty, and seemingly unaffected by the rabbits or the heat. Happy Friday--and keep cool, wherever you are!

This little birdie was on a birthday package I received, but I think she's a gift all by herself. I love her sparkly crown!

Eye candy Friday

The weather today is glor-i-ous! Earlier this week I planted my flower pots for the patio and this morning I worked on my (tiny) vegetable garden. It's *way* too wonderful to stay inside, so I'm heading back out to the patio with my knitting, my iPod and some iced tea. Hope your weekend is filled with flowers, sunshine and fun.

It's been a busy week...but now the rain is coming down, there's an occasional rumble of thunder, and I'm sitting at my computer enjoying this.

Found object

While waiting in line for a district choir concert at a local high school last weekend, I spotted this on the floor.

My husband and son were looking at me at little strangely as I snapped this shot (along with others around us, I'm sure) but I thought it too good to pass up.

Happy Friday, all!
